Sample Itinerary

The following is an example of the itinerary planned for departures in April 2026. Please note that it may be changed at Hardy & Diamond’s discretion due to weather or local conditions.

⚲ COLOMBO

Day 1 | Arrive Colombo, Sri Lanka

Arrive at Colombo airport. Once through immigration and customs a private car service will pick you up and transfer you to Malabar Hill, Weligama on Sri Lanka's South Coast, a journey of around 2hrs 20 minutes.

Day 2 | Sapphire Gemstone Talk by Joanna Hardy

⚲ MALABAR HILL

Breakfast at the hotel and a day of free-time and relaxation. Guests will have exclusive use of Malabar Hill - enjoy the hotel facilities and your own private sun deck and plunge pool or book a complimentary 60 minute treatment at the on-site spa. We can also help recommend local day trips like visiting the UNESCO World Heritage city of Galle Fort or relax on the beach at one of our favourite beach clubs 15 mins away. You may even get lucky and witness baby turtles hatching, which happens all along the south coast at this time of year.

In the evening a welcome cocktail and dinner at Malabar Hill with Joanna and Jess, followed by a talk by Joanna about Sri Lanka and its gemstone history.

Day 3 | Sapphire Mine Visit

⚲ RATNAPURA

Breakfast at the hotel. 9am depart in luxury transport to Lunuganga, the garden estate of celebrated architect Geoffrey Bawa known as ‘the father of Tropical Modernism’, for a tour of the gardens followed by lunch at the café.

Depart for the Ratnapura region and a gemstone mine visit and tour. Discover how the rough gemstones are found and extracted by the miners. Depart around 5pm and arrive back at Malabar Hill for dinner at leisure.

⚲ TREBARTHA EAST

Day 4 | Gemstone Buying Day

Breakfast at the hotel. A day of gemstone discovery at architecturally awarded Trebartha East the Round House. Relax at this stunning setting while meeting our small number of personally vetted gemstone dealers. Joanna and Jess will help guide you through the process of finding and buying your own gemstone. Lunch will be served for you to enjoy, take in the sweeping views, the pool if you wish and hospitality before returning to Malabar Hill for early evening. Dinner at leisure.

Day 5 | Farewell Dinner & Jewellery Design Talk

⚲ MALABAR HILL

Breakfast at the hotel. A day of leisure. Evening farewell rooftop cocktail and dinner with Joanna and Jess in Galle Fort. A talk from Joanna and Jess about the contemporary British jewellery scene and some recommendations and ideas about how to set your gemstone.

Day 6 | Depart Sri Lanka

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.

Private car transfer to Colombo airport.

Back in the UK: Jewellery Consultation

Joanna and Jess will arrange a personal consultation to help you decide how to set your stone, giving you options and choices of numerous jewellers that offer a variety of design styles and that we admire for their skill and creativity. We will then arrange an introduction with the jeweller of your choice so that you can meet them and see their work first hand. We will guide you through the process, until your finished jewel is with you.
